Rules for Using the Building
Standards of Behavior in the Library
The Silver Falls Library has established certain standards of acceptable behavior on library property in order to maintain an atmosphere that promotes the use and enjoyment of the resources and services of the Library; promotes the safety of the general public and the library staff; and protects the building, furniture, equipment, and materials of the Library.
Any activity that interferes with the rights of others to use the library; disrupts the normal functioning of the Library; or could result in physical, emotional, or mental injury to oneself or others or in damage to the library facilities, equipment or materials is considered disruptive and unacceptable behavior. Neither in the library nor on its premises may anyone engage in activities prohibited by law.
Library users are expected to:

Any activity that interferes with the rights of others to use the library; disrupts the normal functioning of the Library; or could result in physical, emotional, or mental injury to oneself or others or in damage to the library facilities, equipment or materials is considered disruptive and unacceptable behavior. Neither in the library nor on its premises may anyone engage in activities prohibited by law.
Library users are expected to:
- Keep speech or audible equipment volume at a level which will not disturb others
- Keep food out of the library
- Bring beverages into the library only in closed containers
- Refrain from use of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, or any other smoking or vaporizing products in the library. Outside use of said products must adhere to current state laws regarding such use in proximity to public facilities.
- Attend to their own personal property while using the library and refrain from blocking or significantly limiting access to or damaging sidewalks, building entrances, library aisles, furniture, or materials, or bringing into the library any item which creates an obstacle, causes damage, or takes up seating
- Cover feet with footwear and chests with clothing while in the library. All current public decency laws apply.
- Leave animals (other than service animals) outside the library, except as authorized by the Library Director
- Keep bicycles out of the library and in designated racks. Refrain from using sporting equipment, skateboards, rollerblades, roller skates and other recreational ambulatory devices in the library.
- Refrain from soliciting, panhandling, or conducting commercial transactions in the library. Distributing written materials or canvassing for political, charitable or religious purposes on library property is prohibited.
- Refrain from bringing in weapons, fireworks, or other dangerous devices. Persons may not bring in firearms except as allowed under State Law.
- Maintain their hygiene and attire in a manner that it does not constitute a nuisance or health concern to others. An individual whose odor or bodily hygiene is so offensive as to constitute a nuisance to other individuals shall be required to leave the building. When the problem is corrected, the individual may re-enter the library.
- Attend the children in their care: Children from birth through five years of age must be accompanied throughout the library building by a responsible adult at all times and children from six through nine years of age must have a responsible adult who remains in the library building during the visit. If a child has been left unattended in the library, staff will attempt to locate caregiver. If the caregiver cannot be located, or if the library is closing, law enforcement will be notified.
