CALL TO ORDER
Chair Milhausen called the meeting to order at 3:04 p.m.
NEW BUSINESS
- Rising infection rates in Oregon and possible increases in covid-19 safety measures
- The Delta variant is more virulent and more serious than previous strains, and some data coming in shows that a significant number of people being diagnosed with the Delta variant are children, as many as 10-20% of new infections.
- The Governor has instituted mask requirements for schools and state buildings, and vaccination requirements for health care workers.
- The CDC is recommending wearing a mask in most indoor and outdoor settings, for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
- It’s preferable to wait for guidance from the state or county before requiring masks for the public, even though there is still risk for Library staff from patrons and from fellow employees.
- We still have plexiglass barriers in place and can replace the social distancing signage. We can limit capacity in the Youth Services area, and remove some seating in the Adult Services area if needed. We can also put up signage offering masks to those patrons who forget, but want a mask upon entry.
- Requiring staff and volunteers to wear masks while working will help protect them from possible infection from patrons or unvaccinated staff, and will model safety measures for patrons and children.
